THE MESS THAT WE MADE

Jon Seymour

Reviewed by:

Jon’s Review this week is “The Mess That We Made” by Michelle Lord, illustrated by Julia Blattman. This is a powerful, eye-opening book that addresses the pressing issue of ocean pollution to help readers better understand the devastation caused by the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Julia's illustrations do an amazing job of capturing both the beauty of the ocean and the tragedy of its pollution. And even though the story begins with a doom-and-gloom overtone, there is a beautiful shift towards feelings of hope. This book also leverages the classic "The House That Jack Built" structure (and is probably the best version I’ve read yet).
Jon gives this story 5 tons of removed ocean garbage out of 5.
