There's a moment that every creative person hits, where it
feels like quitting is the best (and only) thing to do.

That moment has a name, and it’s called ‘the pit of despair’.
And once you know where it sits on the curve, you'll never let it fool you
again. This is where most creatives quit, right before a breakthrough…

Our best advice when things get tough is to keep pushing
through the pain and not go on the journey alone. Find like-minded people to build
a support system so you can pull each other out of the pit.

We’ve also felt this pattern so much as a new indie
publisher, and sometimes we still do. The pit of despair can be brutal, but the
#kidlit community has always kept our spirits high!

I highly recommend paying attention to the world around us and capturing its beauty.

Most of our in-house footage has been just a collection of photos and recordings from going on walks or hikes, or even just interesting things that we've seen along the way.

Sure, it's way easier to use stock footage, and sometimes we do but please never use generative AI. That's it.

Just a fun little video to show the making of a really quick stoppering animation with a kids book. I am no expert at animation so please take all of this advice with a huge grain of salt.

If you want to try this, I'd recommend taking a picture of each frame/ snapshot instead of recording it as a video.

- Covers that included high-contrast colors
- Covers that included themes kids can relate to
- Flashy covers
- Covers that included themes or topics of high interest to kids (aka cookies).

Helping our children to learn and understand the importance of patients and persistence, kindness and compassion, empathy and teamwork, will really be what helps our communities, our cultures and our world come back together.

It feels terrible thinking about the world. We're about to leave for the succeeding generation. So maybe we can show them the way and lead by example.
